What are Famvir or Famciclovir tablets? What are they used for?
Famciclovir is an anti-viral drug used to treat infections caused by certain types of viruses. Famvir tablets treat shingles caused by herpes zoster. They also treat outbreak of herpes simplex that cause cold sores around mouth, sores around anus and genital herpes. Famciclover tablets are used in subjects with frequent outbreaks of genital herpes. The drug however does not cure these infections in totality. Since these viruses continue to live in our body even between outbreaks the drug only controls the outbreak of infection. Famciclovir decreases the severity and length of these outbreaks. It helps in healing the sores faster, keeping new sores from forming and decreases pain and itching. The drug especially helps people with low immunity system from the risk of virus spreading to their other parts of body and causing serious infections.
Methods of usage of Famciclovir
Famciclovir is a prescription drug and has to be taken under the guidance and instructions of healthcare expert. In case of any queries speak to your concerned doctor. Famciclovir is an oral drug to be taken with a glass of water with or without food two to three times in a day or as directed by your medical expert.
